Making Sadness a Blessing

Facebooktwitterpinterestlinkedin

In a state of sadness, you are in a state of grief and hurt that wants to heal.

We feel sad when we personally identify with the problem and its solution and feel lacking in addressing it. This means we feel a sense of responsibility and blame ourselves for not having the means to make a difference. This helplessness and hopelessness feels awful and so often we do our best to minimize it by not fully acknowledging it.

Metaphorically, we are just hiding it away in the closet. Of course, this means that it still exists even if we turn our attention elsewhere. However, if we clean out the closet we can sort through the aspects that hold the sadness.

EFT Tapping: Frequently Asked Questions

Facebooktwitterpinterestlinkedin

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique and it is used to shift you from a negative feeling state into a positive one. Tapping refers to the use of touching points on your meridians in the form of gentle tapping with your fingers.

How does EFT work?

EFT tapping activates your meridians and in doing so shifts you from a sympathetic fight or flight nervous system response to a parasympathetic rest and digest state of being.

What should I say?

Whilst tapping you use your stream of consciousness. In other words, just say what comes to mind about what is challenging you. You can include what you feel and think and where you experience it physiologically or even how the problem shows up metaphorically. You can use anything that has meaning for you and that you associate with your current challenge. If emotions well up, you can continue to tap without speaking until they subside.

What’s your Guiding Word or Theme?

Facebooktwitterpinterestlinkedin

There are several ways to align with your deeper self and direction in life. One approach is to create a personal statement that encapsulates your essence—a phrase that resonates with who you are at your core and reflects your unique contribution. Finding the right words may take several iterations, refining over time until they truly feel aligned. This statement acknowledges where you most strongly identify, guiding you toward who you want to become and how you wish to serve. It helps with clarity on what to say yes or no to.

Another approach is to select an inspirational word or theme that reflects your current journey. This provides a focal point, affirming and shaping your intentions. Choosing a theme also clarifies what deserves your attention now. Our focus naturally shifts between aspects of family, work, health, or another area of life, and you’ll feel an intuitive pull toward what is most needed at any given time.

Improving Emotional Intelligence: What, Why, and How

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is the extent to which you can accurately reason about emotions and use emotions and emotional knowledge to enhance your thinking. This means it is the ability to leverage the interplay between your thoughts and your feelings.

There are various models and subscales, but all find a foundation in Daniel Goleman’s original conceptualization of EQ with five different aspects:

  • Knowing your emotions – recognition of your emotions, as well as associated strengths, and limitations.
  • Managing your emotions – your appropriate use of your emotions and impulses.
  • Motivating yourself – your level of focus on meeting intrinsic needs.
  • Recognizing and understanding other people’s emotions – your application of empathy.
  • Managing relationships (others’ emotions) – your ability to foster co-operation and buy-in.
